If there are no available labs suitable for you...
If you are not allocated any labs yet, and you can only turn up for labs which are already full, then you have a few choices:
- Continue to monitor the allocations page to see if anyone pulls out. E-mail me when you see that someone has. I will not maintain a waiting list, though.
- Turn up for a lab which is full, and see if anyone hasn't turned up. Usually everyone turns up for the first few weeks, then the numbers start dwindling. If a lab is full, then perhaps you can work in one of the adjacent rooms, where we have most of the software installed. You can come into SC2.31 and consult me when you encounter problems. The danger with this is that most time other units are making use of the adjacent labs, and the tutor there may deny you entry into the room at that time.
- Work on your own, and arrange times to see me to go through problems. This is how the external students are doing their work. You have access to everything they have access to, including the instructions on software to install at home (in the downloads page). I do not recommend this though, since external students have my priority when it comes to off-campus assistance, but I may not have enough time to support and internal student's home endeavours. Also, it is always a lot easier to work when you have a tutor to assist you the moment something goes wrong.
Regardless of what you do, you will have to ensure you can show up for one of the labs to demonstrate your assignment 1 in week 6 and 7. Arrange with me if you want to do it in a lab which is not the one you are allocated to.
