Installation Instructions - ActivePerl 623 for Win95/98/NT

  1. Download the files InstMsi.exe and ActivePerl-5.6.0.623-MSWin32-x86-multi-thread.msi from the B336 download site (temporarily unavailable).
  2. Double click on InstMsi.exe to install Windows Installer 1.1.
  3. Restart the machine as the installation requests.
  4. Click on the ActivePerl-5.6.0.623-MSWin32-x86-multi-thread.msi to install ActivePerl 623.
  5. Win95/98 needs to restart the machine now (eventhough the software doesn't ask for it). This is so that the OS updates the registry. You can update the registry manually, but lets not get into that...
  6. To test whether the installation worked, start a MS-DOS prompt, go to the directory C:\PERL\EG (or wherever you have installed ActivePerl), and type the command "perl example.pl". You should get the line "Hello from ActivePerl!" below the command.
  7. That completes the installation. Read the installed documentation for further information on how to use it, or wait for the labs.
