Software Downloads
This page is mainly for external students to download and install the required software off campus. Internal students will have the software available in the labs. Of course, internal students may choose to download and install the software on your home computer as well.
The files provided are mostly for Microsoft Win95/98/NT. I haven't tried them on Win Me/2000, but I don't see the procedures being significantly different.
It is possible to do all the assessible work required under LINUX instead of using the Win32 software below. Consult the unit coordinator on what you need to do.
The download files are password protected. Enrolled students can get the password here.
Required Software:
ActivePerl 623 for Win32 (for Win95/98/NT):
Perl Debugger PTKDB 1.107 for Win32:
Lynx for Win32:
- Installation instructions: Download
lynx_w32.2.8.2rel.1.zip. Uncompress the files into a directory of its own (eg. C:\LYNX).- Usage instructions: Lynx is a text web browser (as oppose to a graphical browser like Netscape Navigator), and should be run from an MS-DOS prompt. Start an MS-DOS prompt window, change into the directory where you have uncompressed the files, and type "lynx" or "lynx http://www.murdoch.edu.au". If you have not used an MS-DOS prompt before, consult your tutor.

Curriculum for Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0
- Installation instructions: Download
curric.zip. Uncompress the ZIP file. Access the index.html file.- Original Site.
- This is basically a set of web pages giving instructions for proper development of web content for accessibility. You don't have to download it, since you can always get it from the original site. It's just to save you from repeatedly downloading the same web pages
Optional Useful Software:
PuTTY: Telnet and SSH client for Win32
- Installation instructions: Download
putty.exe, put the file in a convenient directory, and make a link to it on your desktop.- Original Site.
- SSH (secure shell) basically functions like telnet, but has all transmissions encrypted, rather than done in plain text as telnet does. Sending confidential information like your passwords on login are a lot safer using SSH.
LeechFTP for Win32:
- Installation instructions: Download
lftp13.zip. Uncompress the ZIP file. Click on setup.exe, and follow the instructions.- Original Site
Adobe Acrobat Reader (for viewing lecture notes in PDF form):
Nokia's WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) Toolkit for Win32:
- Installation instructions: Download
NokiaToolkit2_0.zip. Uncompress the ZIP file. Click on setup.exe, and follow the instructions.- Original Site

- Online WAP tutorial using Nokia's Toolkit (introduced in B108 Introduction to Multimedia and the Internet)
The Nokia WAP toolkit is really not very important for this unit, but the file is 15Mb+. Since it is here mainly for interest sake, if bandwidth and download volume cost is a problem for you, please wait until week 12 and have a look at the lab exercise, then decide whether you would like to try it out.
